What is butter mochi?
Butter mochi is a Hawaiian dessert made from mochiko (sweet rice flour), coconut milk, butter, sugar, and eggs. It is known for its chewy texture and is a staple of Hawaiian local cuisine. Unlike traditional Japanese mochi, butter mochi is baked rather than pounded, giving it a dense, cake-like structure with a uniquely chewy texture.
What are the base ingredients in your butter mochi?
Every Pixlcat butter mochi starts from the same base: mochiko (sweet rice flour), butter, coconut milk, eggs, sugar, and sweetened condensed milk. That base bakes up chewy with a custard-like center and a lightly caramelized top. Each flavor builds on it — Matcha, Chocolate, Ube White Chocolate, S'more, Black Sesame, and our Classic. It is naturally gluten-free by ingredient because it uses rice flour instead of wheat.

Is your butter mochi gluten-free?
Yes. All of our butter mochi is naturally gluten-free, made with sweet rice flour (mochiko). However, our kitchen handles tree nuts, dairy, eggs, and coconut. If you have severe allergies, please contact us before ordering.

All flavors contain dairy, eggs, and coconut. Some flavors contain tree nuts or soy. Each product page lists specific allergens. Our kitchen is not nut-free or soy-free.
How do you ship butter mochi?
We ship nationwide from our Boston kitchen using our famous custom pink box. Orders ship Monday through Wednesday via 2-day transit to avoid weekend delays.
Where do you ship?
Nationwide shipping across the continental United States via UPS. No international shipping at this time.
How should I store my butter mochi?

How do I reheat frozen or refrigerated mochi?
Microwave for 15-20 seconds until soft and then let it sit and come to room temperature after about 8 minutes. A quick toast in the toaster oven for 2 minutes gives it a nice crisp edge.
Can I return my order?
Because butter mochi is a perishable food product, we cannot accept returns. If your order arrives damaged or there is an issue with quality, contact us within 48 hours at ohana@pixlcatbuttermochi.com and we will make it right.
